WHAT IS IT?

The Membership and Events  Committee is the most active of all HBA Committees. Not only does the Committee include all Membership activity in its purview, its Committee Members are often the genius and organizers behind many of the HBA’s events.

Although everyone is welcome, if you are an extrovert, you will fit in best here.

WHO SHOULD JOIN?

Are you in sales or in the people business? Are the phone and email essential tools to your success? Do you feel comfortable talking to and meeting complete strangers? Can you work a room like a pro?

If you are a social butterfly, or if you want to force yourself to be better at social skills, the Membership and Events Committee is your answer.

WHAT DO COMMITTEE MEMBERS DO?

The Committee evaluates all membership services on a yearly basis and determines the Annual Sponsorship Program levels. Committee Members analyze the recruiting and retention materials and design / run membership drives.

Committee Members make new Members of the HBA feel warmly welcomed by serving as greeters at all events.

Every prospective Member and renewing Member is run through the Committee. The Committee does everything it can to retain existing Members while attracting non-Members to join the HBA.

Promote the enhancement and the good will of the HBA by developing and planning first-class events that will provide professional and personal enjoyment to members of the HBA, including identifying the place and time of the event, creating a budget for the event, create invitations, access the feasibility of producing an ad book for the event and/or another type of booklet memorializing the event for participants, develop press releases for the event, develop menus, procure underwriting and donations (as necessary), and submit any proposed budgets to the Board of Directors for approval.

The truth is, if there is not another Committee specifically assigned to the task, the Membership and Events Committee takes up the cause.

HOW OFTEN DO THEY GATHER?

Every month, except December. Committee Members also tend to attend many, if not all, of the HBA’s events and functions.

TO WHOM DO THEY REPORT?

Once agreed upon by majority vote at the Committee level, a representative of the Committee recommends action items to the HBA Board of Directors for the Board to make a final decision.

Committees have no authority on their own. They cannot bind the association, decide action, or vary direction. Committees serve the Board of Directors.

WHAT’S THE INSIDE SCOOP?

Do you call on people for a living? We are all in the customer service business; but, are you on the front lines of it?

Need a way to turn cold calls warm? If your were friends with more people in the industry, would that help your career as well?

The Membership and Events Committee is the key to your success. It is a hard-working Committee, no doubt. But, the dividends are huge. While serving the HBA as a volunteer, your ‘job’ will be to call on existing and prospective HBA Members.
