WHAT IS IT?
The HBA has at least one Golf Outing every year, usually two – the spring Golf Tournament and the fall Crazy Golf. The Golf Committee plans, prepares, and ensures a smooth event for all golfers. Plus, this is a fundraiser for the HBA.
WHO SHOULD JOIN?
You think you know fun? Can you intensify the experience like nobody’s business? How are you on the money-making side? This is an HBA fundraiser, after all.
You actually do not have to be a golfer to be on this Committee. About half are and half never have golfed a hole in their lives (mini-Golf doesn’t count, right?).
If you know how to maximize Member fun while maximizing HBA income, this is your Committee.
Hey… Golf is serious business!
WHAT DO COMMITTEE MEMBERS DO?
All Committees are the work horses of the HBA. On a Committee, you brainstorm, research, debate, present, and find ways to improve the HBA. What do the Members want? What will add to the Value of Membership? Start with: What do you want?
If you join the Golf Committee, you will help choose the course, layout the day, organize side games, pick prizes, decide on meals, and set fees. Should the outing serve lunch or dinner or snacks or ‘none of the above’? Can we price the event competitively? How do we increase the number of golfers?
HOW OFTEN DO THEY GATHER?
As needed. Usually, about two meetings per outing. There is no activity for many months and then a flurry of activity as the outing draws near (beginning at about three months out).
TO WHOM DO THEY REPORT?
Once agreed upon by majority vote at the Committee level, a representative of the Committee recommends action items to the HBA Board of Directors for the Board to make a final decision.
Committees have no authority on their own. They cannot bind the association, decide action, or vary direction. Committees serve the Board of Directors.
WHAT’S THE INSIDE SCOOP?
Committees are a great place to hone your leadership skills, make a difference in the construction industry, get to know folks, and be known.
The Golf Committee is the ideal fit for you if you are looking for less meetings, more leg work on your own time, and a big event at the end to witness your handiwork firsthand.
It truly is a great Committee whether you have never served on a Committee before or wrote the book on Committees… whether you’re a golfer or not… or whether you are a behind-the-scenes or a ham-it-up kind of person. Low commitment. Quick volunteer activity. And, fun, Fun, FUN!
