WHAT IS IT?

Members of the Education Committee develop seminars, round-tables, and educational programs. They act as liaisons between the HBA and schools, universities, and other groups. Committee Members develop and present HBA scholarships and serve as liaisons to the Career & Technolgy Centers’ (CTCs’) Student Chapters.

WHO SHOULD JOIN?

want to be on the cutting edge, don’t you? You want to beat your competitors to the punch? To be the first on the block to know? To lead the industry and super-serve your clients? The Education Committee gives Members the tools they need to do all that… and more.

If you want to be a decision maker… part of the team that drives education and training… a leader that raises the bar and increases the standards of the industry, than this is your kind of Committee.

WHAT DO COMMITTEE MEMBERS DO?

All Committees are the work horses of the HBA. On a Committee, you brainstorm, research, debate, present, and find ways to improve the HBA. What do the Members want? What will add to the Value of Membership? Start with: What do you want?

If you join the Education Committee, you will be part of the team that decides the Whats, Wheres, Whys, Whos, and Hows of all HBA Continuing Education & Training.

What do Members need to know? What do they want to know? How will we deliver the knowledge? Will it take all day? A half day? An hour? Over lunch? First thing in the morning? Afternoon? Should there be a fee to attend? Who will instruct? And so on…

Education Committee Members also work very closely with the three Career and Technology Center (CTC) schools in Berks County, which were previously known as the Vocation Technical High Schools (Vo-Tech). Committee Members evaluate the CTCs, assist in re-aligning curriculum, work with the HBA Student Chapters, and mentor the youth workers of our industry.

HOW OFTEN DO THEY GATHER?

Quarterly. However, most Committee Members are regulars at the 3-5 training sessions per year (sometimes as the instructor, other times as a student) and / or volunteer for special projects at the CTCs.

TO WHOM DO THEY REPORT?

Once agreed upon by majority vote at the Committee level, a representative of the Committee recommends action items to the HBA Board of Directors for the Board to make a final decision.

Committees have no authority on their own. They cannot bind the association, decide action, or vary direction. Committees serve the Board of Directors.

WHAT’S THE INSIDE SCOOP?

Committees are a great place to hone your leadership skills, make a difference in the construction industry, get to know folks, and be known. The Education Committee is the place for you if you like to learn or teach… If you enjoy serving as a mentor… If you want to help control the direction of industry education & training (for both the experienced HBA Member and the high school student who wants to someday join us).
